The intensity feature shows a heatmap based on the number of cyclists on the road network: the more tracks, the brighter the route. Detailed information on intensity, speed, and direction over time is provided on a segment level.

Click on a segment to show the detail screen. This provides numeric details of tracks recorded and a graph. It shows the number of tracks, direction, speed according to day or weekdayas well as the lengths of tracks running through a road segment. The detail screen is available with features marked with * in this list.

The heatmap simulation shows a notional map of the intensity. It simulates he shortest route of the actual routes cycled from the start to the final destination according to the cycle route planner.

The speed feature shows the average speed on single road segments.

The relative speed feature  shows the relative speed (on a specific road segment) compared to the average speed (of the entire route) in %.

The delay feature indicates where tracks recorded in 0 km/h (0 mph) during a trip. The more frequently cyclists stop at a location, the larger the dot. Color indicates waiting time. Crossings and traffic lights with long waiting times are distinguished in colour and dot size.

The attractivity feature shows preferred and avoided routes. It indicates where cyclists prefer to ride even though they have to take a detour and where they avoid cycling even though it is the shortest route. Segments that were the shortest routes, but were avoided, appear in red. Popular detours appear in green. Line thickness indicates intensity.

The traffic spider feature highlights road segments that belong to tracks that run through a selected segment. The spider reveals the role a segment plays within the road system. Additional information is shown on Ctrl+Click on higlighted segments and on the detail screen.

The detail route feature shows all tracks running through certain points that are determined in Bike Citizens Analytics by two freely drawn lines. It is a very versatile tool which enables the user to visualise tracks and traffic relationships on a very detailed level, such as viewing crossings or routes on a larger scale (e.g. between two city districts).

The destination feature highlights road segments that belong to tracks ending in a freely-drawn polygone. It indicates the role an area plays as a destination within the road system. This feature is particularily useful for shopping streets, city districts, crossings, venues, etc.

How far can you go by bike within 5 minutes, or 10, 15, 20? The action radius feature uses actual track speed in combination with OSM (OpenStreetMap) segment details to fill the gap where no tracks were recorded. It shows how fast a location can be reached by bike. Click here to try it out !

The PING if you care! feature shows the data recorded by PING bluetooth buttons. PING if you care! is a city based crowdsourced user feedback campaign integrated in the Bike Citizens app. Participants track their journeys, mark locations and leave comments by tagging their marks. When set to be correlated with the tracking data PING if you care! provides valuable insights into the cycling experience in a city.  >> more

The counting station feature integrates a live-feed of existing counting stations. Loops in the ground deliver exact numbers of bicycles passing a certain point. These stations do not identify individual cyclists and are unable to provide information on the actual routes taken. Please also refer to the ‘Calibration’ feature.

The calibration feature correlates the GPS cycling data tracked by the Bike Citizens app with the data derived from bicycle counting stations. Trips tracked with the Bike Citizens app correlate with existing counting stations with a significance of 0.82. Calibrating recorded tracks with stationary counts allows GPS cycling data to be extrapolated and compared with overall road use. Once calibrated, all Bike Citizens Analytics maps can be shown as recorded or extrapolated.
