GPS cycling data new method of traffic counting
Common forms of cycling data collection are:
Traffic Count:
Counts people and transport modes that are entering a certain area within a certain time range. Often no distinction between the different modes of transports. (e. g. bike columns, inductive loops)

Traffic Monitoring:
The behaviour of traffic participants is ovbserved. Different modes of transports can be distinguished. (e. g. human or video observation)

Mobility Survey:
Traffic participants are asked directly to give insight in their traffic behaviour of past, present and future. The given input is influenced by memory and subjective filters. (e. g. Mobility diary)

GPS cycling data
The larger the user sample the better the data foundation for analysis. That however does not mean that you can not start working before you have thousands of daily contributors. Even a smaller user base allows certain conclusions. The city road network and the human body both offer certain limitations. This is especially true for everyday cycling trips for everyday purposes. Sometimes more users produce more of the same. After all the visualisations only provide the foundation. Interpretation still requires human intelligence. In the end any data is better than no data at all.
